We believe that creating a positive school culture begins with teaching your students self-leadership and integrity, so that they can be a positive influence on their peers. The leadership and life skills our programs teach will impact your young adults now and into the future.

Habitudes for Athletes

Habitudes for Athletes, the core to our process, is a student-athlete leadership training system that develops resilience, emotional intelligence, and ownership.

This leadership development system is based on the series of books entitled Habitudes®: Images that Form Leadership Habits and Attitudes, written by Dr. Tim Elmore, President of Growing Leaders. Because of the universal values this series helps to impart, athletic programs across the country have used Habitudes to help develop character and leadership in their athletes. What makes these tools so powerful is the research-based training methods which use distinct images, conversations, and experiences to teach timeless life and sports leadership skills in an engaging, memorable way.

Each season contains a variety of resources to help you implement a leadership training environment, including video sessions with Dr. Tim Elmore, in-depth Coach’s Guides that provide exercises and activities for practical application, and a Facilitator Training video that teaches you how to effectively conduct engaging leadership training with your this new generation of athletes.

  • Transform a group of individual athletes into a unified force.
  • Create teams of athletes who build trust with each other and their coaches.
  • Create language to talk about real life issues in a safe and authentic way.
  • Build teams where every athlete thinks and acts like a leader.
  • Build athletes who make wise decisions that keep them in competition and out of trouble.
  • Develop resilience, EQ, and leadership perspective in athletes

How to Build a Leadership Culture

Every athletic department and team is different. That's why we work with our partners to customize a sports leadership training program to their department's values, goals, and culture.

Part of your customized leadership training can be a survey that helps you truly understand

The Art of Self-Leadership

In the first set of images from the system, student athletes learn how to lead themselves well by developing strong character, self-discipline, personal values, responsibility, initiative, self-esteem, time management, and a healthy support network.

The Art of Teamwork & Connecting with Teammates

Themes covered in the second series of images teach practical ways for athletes to develop strong relationships with their teammates, resolve conflict, and create a team culture.

The Art of Leading Others and Changing Team Culture

The third component of the program focuses on major leadership principles, including setting the vision for the team, setting goals, leading effective teams, handling criticism, and leveraging your influence to positively impact others on the team.

The Art of Navigating Transitions

Images from the fourth series are specifically designed to give student-athletes tools to navigate the critical junctions of life. This includes handling transitions that occur as part of their sport, as well as those in life after school.

How to Understand & Connect with Today's Athlete

If you’ve worked with young athletes over the last 15 years, chances are you’ve seen a change in the way they think, talk, or act. In some cases, these changes have been positive—many athletes practice multiple sports, accept diversity on their teams, and are great teammates. But in other cases, young athletes seem to be lacking in focus, passion, and drive, all of which are essential components for success (both on and off the field).

To help coaches tackle this issue, we wrote The “New School” Coach. We believe the changes taking place in the 21st century require us to revise the way we coach today’s athlete. We need a “new school” coach who understands the language of today’s generation.

In this free eBook, you will discover just who this generation is. You’ll also be given the opportunity to build simple practical solutions into your coaching methods that will help you motivate your athletes toward success and create lasting change within your team’s culture.

This complimentary eBook helps coaches:

  • Understand why today’s athletes are so challenging to coach.
  • Have hard (but helpful) conversations with athletes.
  • Discover what today’s athletes need most from a coach.
  • Use a simple communication grid to connect with each athlete.
  • Develop a healthy team culture that allows each athlete to reach his or her potential.
